The Warhammer is a one-handed melee weapon, often used as a secondary backup weapon.

Overview

Strengths

  • Fairly high damage for a small, one-handed weapon, especially against armor.
  • Small size makes it difficult to read.
  • Low point cost makes it useful both as a primary weapon and a sidearm.
  • Alt mode can kill an enemy with no head armor in one strike.

Weaknesses

  • Slightly slower than most other one-handed weapons.
  • Relatively low damage against unarmored enemies.
  • Low stab damage.
  • Short reach.
  • Attacks stop on hit, making it weak against multiple enemies.
  • Alt mode can't combo.

Skins / Components

The Warhammer has 2 skins, each with 6 components; Default and Bohemian Set.

Historical References

A warhammer was a blunt weapon made to be used against plate armor, similar to the Mace. However, the Mace was more club-like, while the warhammer concentrated more force onto a single point. It was used primarily by cavalry from the late 14th century up to the 17th century.

The blunt head of the warhammer was usually pronged, which were made for a better "grip" on plate armor instead of just glancing off. The back spike or beak varied in length and was mainly used to penetrate lighter armor like gambeson or even chainmail. The posterior spike wasn't used against plate armor since it couldn't punch through it and would usually just glance off.

Notes and Trivia

As plate Armor became more prominent, so did blunt Weapons. Thus, the hammer evolved into the warhammer, which was much smaller and more compact than often depicted in video games and fantasy. Although quite short when compared to most other Weapons used on horseback, the warhammer was a paramount weapon of a mounted Knight. It was used in a very different way to a Spear or Lance. While those two Weapons were used from afar as they offered substantial range, the warhammer was used to, with more precision and strength, considerably dent in the helmet of the wielder's foes. Again, unlike the polearms, the Knight using the warhammer would lean to the right of his saddle and swing into the head of his enemy. As the Horse created an enormous amount of power by itself, the swing of the warhammer didn't need to be very strong in order to achieve its goal.
